Elon Musk has directed more than $276 million to Republican political organizations since July, according to a report on the 2026 midterm campaign. The scale of the giving puts the billionaire well ahead of every other publicly identified donor in the election so far. It also makes his money a major element in Republican efforts to defend their standing in Washington and compete in important state contests.

The biggest portion of that amount, $158 million, was sent to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC tied to Republican Senate campaigns. The contribution is among the largest political gifts in United States history. The group’s mission is to help Republicans preserve and strengthen their Senate majority, placing Musk’s support at the center of a high-stakes battle for control of the chamber.

One of the races in the organization’s sights is the effort to keep a Republican-held Senate seat in Texas. That state is especially relevant to Musk because it serves as a major center of operations for his business interests. The donation does not dictate how the Senate Leadership Fund will distribute its resources, but it gives a leading Republican-aligned group a substantial pool of money as the campaign season unfolds.

Musk has also contributed more than $76 million to America PAC, the political organization he founded in 2024. The group is focused on canvassing Republican voters who may be harder for campaigns to reach. Its work is therefore aimed at direct voter contact, adding another route through which Musk’s spending can support candidates beyond the more visible advertising campaigns associated with major elections.

Several other conservative and Republican organizations have received notable sums. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC that backs House Republicans, received $20 million. Lone Star Liberty PAC was given $10 million in support of Ken Paxton’s Texas Senate campaign, while the Republican Governors Association received another $10 million. Musk also provided $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.

The pattern of donations reaches across federal and state-level races, including Senate, House, governor and attorney general contests. Some recipients operate nationally, while others are focused on a particular state or candidacy. Together, the contributions show that Musk’s involvement is not confined to a single campaign or office, but is spread across organizations working to advance Republican and conservative electoral objectives.

The more than $276 million reported since July is only part of Musk’s broader activity in the current cycle. His donations to federal committees during the full 2025-26 election period total about $366 million. That figure is already considerably higher than the approximately $290 million he gave in 2024, when his spending was used to support Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

The increase is striking because Musk said in May that he expected to spend less on politics in the future. His subsequent giving has moved in the other direction. The difference between that earlier statement and the current total is likely to sharpen attention on the role of major donors, as well as the ability of super PACs and related political groups to gather large sums for campaign activity.

How the money affects the midterms will depend on where recipient groups choose to invest it and how competitive the targeted races become. Large donations can support voter outreach and other campaign operations, but they do not settle elections by themselves. For now, the reported figures establish Musk as the most significant known financial supporter of Republican midterm efforts, with funding reaching multiple levels of the ballot.
